Numerology again. Many of the media, not just the forums, mailing lists, twitter, facebook or infotainment, but also the mainstream media in Indonesia, raising news about the 26th, numbers 66 and the disaster that struck Indonesia. Is it true national disaster often occurs on the 26th? Let's examine the accuracy of this news together.
Actually I have absolutely no intention of writing this topic. But because I got a lot of questions about it and saw this news is still mention on television, so I decided to write it so that we get a more precise about the 26th, numbers 66 and national disasters.
Mentioned in the media (one of which is Legal. Click here) if the 26th has significance because national disasters generally occur on that date. The disasters are used as examples are:

Because of this similarity, many people who regard the 26th as the date of disaster specialists and has a mystical meaning.
Then the question is, what is the date that has significance in relation to national disaster?
The answer is: Not at all.
Let's see disasters mentioned above one by one.
Large tsunami that occurred in Aceh in 2004 was right there on the 26th December. This event killed more than 200,000 people and was listed as one of the largest natural disasters in the world. Thus, the claim about it is accurate.
Well, the problem is the Yogyakarta earthquake that occurred in 2006. This earthquake is not really happening on the 26th of May, but on May 27. You can check the wikipedia page below. Click here. Thus, the Yogyakarta earthquake can not be attributed to the 26th.
Then, Earthquake Tasikmalaya in 2010. This earthquake did occur on June 26. But the problem this earthquake can not be called a natural disaster because of the small magnitude earthquakes that occurred and did not cause any damage. You can check in from VIVAnews link below. Click here. Therefore, enter Tasikmalaya earthquake in June 2010 as a list of natural disasters does not fit at all.
Next is the Mentawai Tsunami in 2010. Once again, the tsunami Mentawai not actually occurred on October 26, 2010, but dated October 25, 2010. You can check the following link kompas.com. Click here. Thus the Mentawai tsunami also has nothing to do with the 26th.
Then, the last disaster was the eruption of Mount Merapi alluded to in October 2010 yesterday. Regarding this case, the connection with the 26th even debatable. Because the real Merapi volcano has erupted and lava issued on October 25, not Oct. 26. One news site that includes this story is Jakartapost.com on October 25, 2010.
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 25/10/2010 4:44 PM
"Mount Merapi erupted installments times on Wednesday afternoon, spewing lava down its southern and Southeastern slopes. Three major eruptions were the resource persons Recorded at 2:04 pm, 2:24 pm and 3:15 pm, According to reports from Merapi monitors and as reported by kompas.com. "
So, on October 25 that, Merapi has been spewing lava 3 times, ie at 14:04, 14:24 and 15:15. The eruption on 26 October is the eruption of the more memorable because it takes casualties as a result of wedus trash.
The conclusion is, from 5-related disaster called the 26th, only 4 events that could be called a disaster. And from 4, which happened on the 26th only 1 event, namely the tsunami in Aceh.
So, linking these disasters with the 26th at all unreasonable.
Moreover, we always can ask the critical to the makers of this news. Why are other major natural disaster like an earthquake in Padang, Pangandaran tsunami and floods Wasior not included? Though deaths due to disasters are also very much.
Of course, because disasters do not happen on the 26th.
Padang earthquake occurred on September 30, 2009. Pangandaran tsunami occurred on July 17, 2006 and Wasior flood occurred on October 4, 2010. Moreover, if the October 2010 eruption of Merapi alluded to, why did the eruption of Merapi in 1994 and 2006 does not mention?
Perhaps because in 1994, Merapi erupted on 22 November (27 fatalities) and in 2006, Merapi erupted on 19 April.
So, once again, the national disaster in Indonesia did not only happen on the 26th. In other words, this is an example of the excitement that is based on inaccurate data.
Then, I found an interesting list of the media. To strengthen the argument about the link between the 26th with a major disaster, the media provide a list of 34 earthquakes, tsunamis and 1 second volcanic eruption that occurred on December 26. This time the disaster that are listed are disasters that occur worldwide between 1531 until now.
Here's a list of disasters such (I should show this list so you can understand what I mean):
January 26, 1531 earthquake in Lisbon, Portugal, 30,000 people died
January 26, 1700 earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, from Vancouver Island, Southwest Canada off British Columbia to Northern California, Pacific Northwest, USA. Known as a megathrust earthquake.

March 26, 1977 earthquake in Palu, Turkey
December 26, 1979 earthquake in Carlisle, England
April 26, 1981 earthquake in Westmorland, USA
May 26, 1983 earthquake in Nihonkai, Chubu, Japan
January 26, 1985 earthquake in Mendoza, Argentina
January 26, 1986 earthquake in Tres Pinos instead, USA
April 26, 1992 earthquake in the Cape Mendocino, California, USA
October 26, 1997 earthquake in Italy
December 26, 2004 Tsunami Yogyakarta Earthquake May 26, 2006
June 26, 2010 Earthquake Tasik
October 26, 2010 Tsunami Mentawai
October 26, 2010 Merapi erupted.
If we only read at a glance, we will soon be amazed at how many disasters (earthquakes) that occurred on December 26. But the problem is, this list is very misleading because it has been pulled out of context. This is an example of how an "impression" may arise because they do not get the big picture. Should this list compared to the list of all the earthquakes that occurred between the years 1500 to present. Thus, the true picture can only be seen clearly.
I'll give it to you.
However, we will only see the picture of the disaster which occurred on 20 and 21 century. So, we will remove disaster no.1 until No.7 because these disasters occur before 1900. Then, I will remove disaster No.33 to No.37 (which occurred in Indonesia) because I have already discussed above. Moreover, we do have to issue a volcanic eruption and tsunami disaster because the list contains all of the earthquake.
Now we have a list of 25 world earthquake disaster that occurred on the 26th between 1900 until now.
Is this amount enough so that we can think of 26 has a mystical meaning?
Of course not. I'll show you the statistics.
In wikipedia, there is a special page that lists the earthquake-earthquake that occurred between 1900 until now. You can see the list by clicking here. In this list there are 1316 earthquakes that occurred around the world (Is not amazing there are people who so diligently to make this list?).
Then, I calculate the number of earthquakes by date of occurrence. Apparently from the 1316 earthquake, which occurred on the 26th only appears 50 times (more than 25 earthquakes in the list above). However, this amount is only 3.8% of the overall list.
1316 quake was split almost evenly on all dates.
Date of most of the earthquake was 14 (57 times - 4.33%). Then the second was 25 (55 times - 4.18%) and followed with 22 (54 times - 4.10%).
The date on which the earthquake is at least 31, which only happens about 26 times or 1.98%. This is reasonable because at 31 only appeared 7 times in 1 year.
26 th ranked 4th in conjunction with the 21st and 13th.
I convert this data into a chart to make it easier to see the percentage of each date.
The result: a wheel that is very beautiful.
The composition of color on the wheel indicates that there is no date that dominate the disaster. All received jatahnya respectively.
Well, now, masihkah believe that the 26th is the date of disaster specialists?
Now, briefly about the number 66.
People began to connect the number 66 because it calculates the distance between the earthquake in Yogyakarta on 21 August 2010 until the eruption of Merapi on 26 October 2010, which, when aggregated have an interval of 66 days. Even this could be moot because if we have relied on the initial eruption of Merapi, which is on 25, then the lapse day to 65 not 66.
If we count from the date of Merapi request casualties, then there is a lapse of 66 days.
Then, the spectacular is, the number 66 is then connected with the name Mbah Marijan, the gatekeeper of Mount Merapi, which is by counting the names in alphabetical order and the whole sum.
M = 13, A = 1, R = 18, I = 9, J = 10, A = 1, N = 14
If you add up, we get a total number = 66.
Count is correct. But the problem is one. Mbah Marijan writing the correct name is Maridjan, not Marijan. Spelling the name "Maridjan" can you see the sign at his home.

If using the name "Maridjan", then we get the number 70.
So devastated its relationship with number 66.
Numerology is interesting. In many cultures, like Chinese culture, for example, numerology plays a considerable role. This article is not intended to oppose certain public trust. I'm just trying to assess a more objective news. Thank you.
